Colored pencil on paper · 4/7/2026
"I'd love some feedback on my colored pencil piece titled "Mother Nuzzle" – it focuses on the close, affectionate moment between a mother and baby (nuzzling together)."
I love this piece. I think some color in the background would be nice. Like a color wash not necessarily a sun. I like the idea of just a soft color. It is a beautiful picture.
I really love it like it is. I'm afraid a sunset would really take away from it. I love color and sometimes I have to step back and remember "less is more". You want the viewer to focus on the mother and child. You might go for a neutral with very little texture. But like it is, is just great. Lots of emotion and the color of the giraffes is gorgeous.
For me, it is very coherent as it is – I wouldn't add anything further.
If i was going to add a background, it wold be a soft light blue green on bottom shaded to light blue on top. Opposite color will pop this beautiful color pencil drawing. I would use pastel applied with cotton, to make it very airy looking rather than a penciled one which might have too much volume. It would then look like the Giraffes are out on the Savanah where they live, and the colors would be like a camera sees, blurred in the background.
Warm colors will blend in with the piece and you want mom and baby to stand out.
But thats me. Your work is so skillful and gives such a warm and loving expression. I love it the way you have it too.
I love it how it is! So sweet!
