@Edie M Murgia asked a great question in the TASA Community, putting it here bc I know it will help others to talk this one through.

Hey Jason, thanks for doing this. You've got an impressive resume. I'm curious if you've noticed any shifts in the market from 2025 to 2026?

2
Jason Matias | Art of Selling Art1d ago

The biggest shift I’ve noticed is that the customer journey now takes longer. The buying arc for most people is elongated. It’s some combination of the market and world politics. Nurturing more important than ever

2

So Jason, this is about customers building and feeling trust with the artist?

Jason Matias | Art of Selling Art9h ago

the "customer journey" yes. the multiple components to that but in a nutshell, yea

I have been painting several years and am ready to start selling my work but am at a loss about where to start with publicly? setting up facebook page and looking at doing a website. Where should I focus first?

The first thing you need to do is to draw your CAF - Customer Acquisition Funnel. Then you'll know where to focus your energy. I'll draw one for you on the call

Hi Jason, thank you for doing this. At my initial opening of my website I had a flurry of activity, but since then, really, nothing. So I guess my question is after reading how to market your artwork and that it is important to show up online with one’s authentic self, how do you continue to do that when you get little or no feedback; and how to build trust and relationships when nobody comments? How to stay motivated to continue to show up?

1

Thats a good question

Your answer is buried in your question. "How do I make people pay attention?" - i'll elaborate on the call

A photographer who teaches other artists how to sell is exactly the voice people need right now!

Howdy Jason, I am curious how to increase my sales, I have a very specific photography art, I am on my 53rd year as a professional Rodeo Photographer. My style is very documentary. With my tight niche, do you have any suggestions to expand my reach. Thank you

Its likely two fold: presentation and audience.

if you're not afraid of a little critical feedback, drop your website here.

$1.5M in student sales is wild.

Hello Jason! I'm Elena Kuzenko! As an artist based in Ukraine, where the local art market is currently underdeveloped, what is your best advice for gaining visibility on the international stage? How can an artist effectively transition from a local context to building a recognizable brand and selling works to international collectors? Thank you!

1
Jason Matias | Art of Selling Art8h ago

good question and I know a lot other international artists will benefit from my thoughts and tactics on this topic. thank you. will discuss on the call

Yo creó qué es difícil vender aunque seas muy bueno como artista. Hay proceso que solo te lo da el tiempo y la experiencia, a no ser que seas un genio, qué son pocos a lo largo de la historia.

La única forma de vender es que tengas un buen manager

I’ll have to translate this for the call

I'm super curious!! What's the one marketing thing you see artists overcomplicate that's actually SUPER simple to do?

1
Jason Matias | Art of Selling Art1d ago

Reps. Artist complicate how they show up and show up less because of it. I’ll go into this more on the call

1

Can you please explain what you mean by 'Reps'?

1
Jason Matias | Art of Selling Art9h ago

I will on the call!

Hello, Jason! I live in Ukraine. I'd like to ask for your advice on how and where I can sell my paintings abroad, if that's possible, of course.

0

Hey Jason, I am a wildlife photographer and I would describe my work as conservation-driven fine art. I have been struggling with getting my work in front of the right audience. I have a decent following on social media (lots of other photographers and artists) but they are not there to buy. I am curious to hear your suggestions on where I should focus my efforts.

Hello, do you think you could sell my portraits? Please take a look and see if you can.

Best regards

I don't sell other artists' work (normally). I do teach you to do it for yourself.

PS - this approach to finding representation is never going to work.

I’m also open to commissions.
