So Arty seems to have handled the logistics of this question. The missing part of the discussion: you need DEMAND before you have Print On Demand. If you don't have that yet, it won't be too much trouble to personally fulfill your deliverables. Your focus should be on getting people to your art and developing relationships
Hi there! The good news is this is very doable, and you've got a couple of paths depending on what you're after.
When you say "pay and download," that's a digital download model (buyer pays, gets the file instantly). That's a different setup from traditional print on demand (where a company prints and ships a physical product like a canvas or mug on your behalf). Both are worth considering, so here's the quick breakdown:
- For digital downloads (pay and get the file): Gumroad, Payhip, or Etsy digital listings let you upload your art files, set a price, and buyers get instant delivery after payment. Gumroad is the simplest to set up, takes about 20 minutes to list your first piece. You upload the high-res file, set your price, and they handle the checkout and delivery.
- For physical print on demand (someone orders a canvas print, mug, or pillow with your art on it, and it ships to them without you touching inventory): Art Storefronts has this built in for your website. The top three sellers across artists tend to be throw pillows, mugs, and tote bags, so those are worth turning on first.
- Pricing tip for digital downloads: most artists selling digital art files price between $5 and $25 per image depending on resolution and usage rights. Start at $10 for personal-use downloads and see how the market responds. You can always adjust.
- One thing to lock down before you list anything: decide whether buyers get personal-use rights only (they can print it for their wall) or commercial rights (they can use it on products they sell). Spell it out clearly on the listing page. Personal-use pricing and commercial-licensing pricing are very different numbers.

"Alain Jean, is a Belgian a self-taught contemporary abstract artist and lifelong photographer whose practice explores the intersection of photography, digital manipulation, and optical illusion. Working without AI and only from photographs he has personally captured and transformed, he creates immersive Op Art compositions that challenge perception and invite viewers into a dynamic visual experience.
Recognized as the creator of the « optical-illusion iris », Alain develops works that are both highly graphic and deeply immersive, transforming familiar imagery into vibrating fields of color, depth, and movement. His art offers a unique interaction with the viewer, shifting as the eye moves and creating an experience that is at once intimate, disorienting, and unforgettable. Viewers discover a feeling of being drawn into the work and feel as if they are immersed in a bath of energy.
Rooted in abstraction but shaped by photographic source material, Alain’s work bridges technology, perception, and emotional presence. Through this distinctive approach, he expands the language of contemporary optical art and presents a singular visual signature within today’s abstract art landscape.
Alain has exhibited in numerous exhibitions both in Belgium and abroad - France, Austria, Slovenia where two of his works are permanently exhibited - and now in Italy."
