A road to no where!

I am having a hard time making clouds, that look real. As you can see in my road to no where.

Clouds are tough. I shot the same mountain ridge for three years before I got one sky I was happy with, and even then it was mostly about waiting for the right morning. The light has to do most of the work.

I like what I have now of the clouds. But I have another problem. The Mountains are lined in black now. Should I try fixing them, or just leave it alone.

First off, you have to look at the sky as one element in a larger scene. Regardless of what you are painting. it has to work as one. Everything about this painting has a certain loose, minimalist style to it. Making the sky look too "real" is going to separate that from the rest of the painting and then it will feel disjointed. Right now, the clouds match the movement and energy in the middle ground which is what makes the painting work as a whole.

Thanks, I am going to leave the painting alone. I feel if I try to much, I will over work it. And lose what I was going for. A road to nowhere!

Nice painting. I like the clouds. The sharp lines of the mountains don't help though. I think you have overworked slightly but nice.

I see what you mean about the mountains. But I'm not to sure how to fix them without causing more complications.

I make clouds bunching up paper towels into a ball, dipping them in an off white acrylic paint, or whatever paint you are using, it is never completely white, and then stamping it on the surface of my substrate. I then take a bit of the white, mix it with a tiny bit of black or a blue, to make a soft grey, whatever you use to make a grey in your world, and I use that with a brush to paint the bottom of the clouds; this works for me. Look at clouds, they are never completely white, even the clouds you have there are fine, make a soft grey, stamp it in, even using your finger, might work, make it a little bit messy, clouds are a little messy. Your clouds are really kind of neat. Clouds are never neat as a pin.

The clouds read more as weather than decoration, which is what you want. I struggle with that same thing, trying to make atmosphere instead of objects. Your road surface has good texture in it, the kind of worn quality that takes time to build. I'd keep pushing the clouds in that same direction, treating them like another surface with weight and grain instead of something fluffy. The flea market taught me that even the lightest things have density if you look close enough.

Yea, the clouds turn out better I hade before. But changing the clouds. Cause the mountains tops to be to dark. Not sure how to fix it. Thanks for the encouragement and the advice about how you work with your clouds.
I think that is why we are here. To help each other and share what has worked for each of us and what hasn't. My thought is always, keep painting until you get it right. You will. ❤
