Before the Mist

The morning clouds gave way to sunlight, turning the Atlantic into silver.
Far on the horizon, the mist is already beginning to gather — another change quietly on its way.

A quiet morning on the Atlantic coast.
I saw the seagull approaching and waited for it to cross the open sky before taking the photograph.
For a brief moment, it became part of the landscape — suspended between the cliffs, the sea and the changing morning light.

September’s spring tides reshape the shore, revealing patterns usually hidden beneath the Atlantic.
As the water retreats, it leaves long ripples carved into the sand, shallow pools between the rocks and a landscape that will exist only until the sea returns.
For a few hours, the tide becomes the artist.

At the end of the day, the tide leaves its own paths across the sand, carrying the last light back towards the Atlantic.
For a few moments, sea, sky and shore seem to share the same colours — before everything changes again.

Late afternoon on the coast, with the sun tracing a path across the Atlantic and the old fort watching from the shore.
For a few moments, even the birds seemed to follow the light.

At low tide, the coastline becomes another landscape.
Rocky platforms emerge from beneath the Atlantic, pools of water catch the changing sky, and long lines of waves continue their journey towards shore. For a few hours, the sea steps back and reveals a world usually hidden beneath it.

Sometimes a simple place becomes a perfect frame.
White lines, deep blue, and the quiet geometry of a seaside bench — with the Atlantic stretching endlessly beyond. A small corner of Ericeira where even sitting still feels like looking out into the world.

The day is still finding its light.
Low tide reveals the rocky shore, while long lines of waves travel quietly towards the coast. Above, the clouds begin to break, leaving patches of blue over an Atlantic still wrapped in the softness of early morning.
No dramatic sunrise. No golden light.
Just the coast waking up, slowly.
Ericeira, Portugal — early morning.

The first light of morning reaches Ribeira d’Ilhas quietly.
At low tide, the rocky shore emerges while long, gentle lines travel towards the coast. Above, the last traces of morning mist soften the meeting between Atlantic and sky.

Standing on its rocky island in the Tagus, Almourol Castle seems almost inseparable from the landscape around it.
Stone rises above the water, while light moves across the river and the small boat below gives a sense of scale to a fortress that has watched over this place for centuries.
Some monuments are best understood not only through their history, but through the landscape that still surrounds them.

The harbour draws its own geometry between land and sea.
Boats resting ashore, the curve of the breakwater and the open Atlantic beyond — different lines belonging to the same maritime landscape.
A working harbour, shaped by the sea and by the people who live alongside it.

On a clear day, the Atlantic reveals every shade of blue.
From deep water to turquoise shallows, the sea quietly shapes the landscape of Ericeira.

The Atlantic grows quiet as the day begins to fade.
A small boat crosses the calm water beneath a sky still holding the last light.
