Thomas Heaton captura aqui algo que eu acho que muitos de nós que fotografamos paisagens sabemos, mas raramente falamos: essa tensão entre desejar solidão no campo e a realidade do que uma viagem solo às montanhas realmente parece. É honesto de uma maneira que a maior parte do conteúdo de fotografia de paisagem não é, e eu apreciei isso mais do que qualquer composição única que ele mostre.
Essa não é a imagem típica que você vê de um eclipse solar, embora eu também tenha capturado aquelas. Tive a ideia de capturá-lo como parte de uma paisagem para ver quais seriam os resultados. Levei algum tempo para encontrar um local adequado, mas o Lago Chatuge, no norte da Geórgia, para o eclipse total de 2017, ganhou a honra. Tive que usar uma lente ultra-wide (15mm) para capturar o suficiente da cena, e esta imagem foi realmente tirada no momento de \"o Anel\", mas acho que ficou bem.

I was watching the birds and waiting for the waves. Then, for a brief moment, the light, the sea and the seagulls became part of the same scene.

Before the Last Ray — Atlantic Ocean
Before the final ray of sunlight disappeared, several golden beams broke through the clouds, illuminating the Atlantic Ocean and creating beautiful reflections on the water.
These photographs capture two different moments of the same changing sky, taken with two different smartphones. Interestingly, the earlier photograph appears darker, even though the natural light was not as dim as the image suggests.
The differences in brightness and contrast are partly due to each phone’s automatic camera processing.

On my way home, I noticed several rays of sunlight breaking through the clouds over the Atlantic. I stopped to capture the moment, but the sky was already closing in.
By the time I took this photograph, only one ray remained, illuminating the horizon above the rolling waves.

Faz tempo demais desde a última vez que passei algum tempo fotografando no Lake Lanier. As últimas duas manhãs frias têm criado uma névoa evaporativa sobre a superfície do lago. Reservei alguns minutos nesta manhã para passar por lá e fotografá-la. É bom passar algum tempo na beira do lago novamente.
First, it was the waves that caught my attention. They seemed to offer perfect conditions for surfing, an almost constant presence along this coastline.
Then, in the distance, a sailboat appeared, tiny against the vastness of the Atlantic.
I waited a little, watching the waves take shape, until I found the moment when the breaking surf and the sailboat came together in the same scene.
Between those who challenge the waves, those who sail towards the horizon, and those who simply stand and admire, the ocean reveals different ways of experiencing its beauty.

Fiquei satisfeito com a capacidade da minha câmera de capturar a faixa dinâmica entre os realces e as sombras.
