SILBERSEE OCRACOKE NC

A single, wilted zucchini leaf rises from a geometric, white vase and, in this large-format analog photograph, becomes a silent icon of decay. The composition plays with contrasts: the flawless, artificial form of the vase meets the organic, brittle texture of the leaf, whose veins and fine hairs become almost tangibly perceptible thanks to the extreme sharpness and depth of detail of the large-format image.
It is a still life that transcends mere aesthetics and serves as a powerful symbol of climate change. The leaf, once lush and green, is now brown and fragile—a direct reflection of heat, drought, and the vulnerability of our ecosystems.
In this reduction to a single element lies a depth of thought: what we often overlook as mundane reveals, in its state of decay, a monumental—albeit sad—beauty. The light illuminating the scene traces the traces of life and prompts us to reflect on the inexorable transience of existence and our own role in this fragile cycle. Photography Hand-Made on film

In the precise, uncompromising nature of large-format analog photography, a world of nature is revealed to us—one that references its own forms. Limestone shells, once shelters for life in the deep ocean, come together here to form a blossom that will never wither. It is a play on the dimensions of being: the maritime imitates the floral; the hard shapes the soft.
The delicate grooves of the scallops, rendered almost tactile by the three-dimensional depth of the large-format camera, resemble the veined petals of a bizarre anemone. At the center rests, protected and mysterious, a round core—like the promise of a pearl or the ovary of a new existence. The visible film edge of the Sinar not only frames this composition; it grounds it. It reminds us that we are looking at a fleeting moment, fixed for eternity by silver halides.
This photograph reveals to us the fundamental geometry of the world. Everything flows into one another; everything repeats itself. The sea brings forth blossoms that seem hewn from stone, and time stands still for the blink of an eye to show us that beauty often lies in the collage-like dialogue of the elements.

In this evocative composition, the quiet beauty of transience unfolds. Dried rosebuds, a striking poppy capsule, and rough, weathered seed pods come together against a coarsely textured fabric background to form a poignant still life. The masterful interplay of deep shades and extremely tactile surface textures is perfectly captured by the subtle gray-scale rendering and the classic grain of Fomapan 9x12 sheet film. A contemplative work full of textured depth and melancholy, precisely staged with the Sinar view camera.

In the intimate stillness of the photograph, a profound, almost melancholic reflection on identity and the human condition is revealed. The deliberate choice of large-format analog photography lends this scene an extraordinary sense of depth and tangible immediacy. Every nuance of the skin, the fine texture of the hair, and the matte surface of the small mask are bathed in a timeless chiaroscuro by the masterful use of light, which strips the moment of the hustle and bustle of the present.
Philosophically, the image touches on the age-old motif of the Theatrum Mundi—the world as a stage on which we are all compelled to play roles. Yet here we see not the performance, but the moment that follows: the pause. The face—whether asleep or lost in deep introspection—has emancipated itself from the rigid persona symbolized by the small mask. Although the hand still holds the artificial face, its grip has become gentle, almost pensive.
A silent dialogue emerges between the vulnerable, living self and the motionless mask with its painted tears. In this reduction to the essentials, the work poses the fundamental question of who we actually are when we set aside the world’s expectations for a moment and surrender to our own, unprotected truth.
