Summer painting

Catch a Wave - in soft pastel

Now that it's summer I'm back to painting seascapes of the east coast. I wonder if I should be painting scenes now for winter? Would it cool me off on hot summer days? Do you only paint the season you are in or do you vary it up?

Sherri, I love this question about painting seasons out of sync! Do you find yourself craving winter scenes when you're sweating through July, or does being present in summer seascapes feel more natural? I'm curious how other artists here navigate that tension between what you're living in versus what you're dreaming about.

I’ve done both! Some times painting snow is just so refreshing when it’s 90 degrees with high humidity🤣

I’m working on a moody pastel seascape from Maine at the moment and I have an oil and cold wax abstract of Monument Valley in progress. Ocean / desert🤷‍♀🤣

I paint whatever season calls to me in the moment, honestly. Sometimes winter scenes in July feel perfect because they're what I'm craving. Your soft pastel wave has that gentle motion that makes me want to be right there on the coast.

Thanks Bill! I’m heading back to the beach in August and can’t wait🌊💕
