The symbols carry the work, don't they. I notice that with my own pieces too, when you settle on an image that already means something to people, it does half the lifting. Your doves and crosses have centuries behind them. What I'm curious about is texture. Do you keep the paint thick where it wants to sit, or do you smooth it down? I find that with acrylics, the surface can hold so much if you let it stay a little rough.
