Entre Marés | Jardim Submerso

When the tide recedes, small worlds are left to be discovered.

In a pool between the rocks, a sea anemone unfurls its tentacles among algae, limpets and other small forms of life. For a few hours, this patch of ocean remains almost suspended, waiting for the sea to return.

I especially love these places where you only have to draw near to see how much life hides among the rocks.

Ericeira, Portugal.

I've never shot tide pools, but the patience required sounds familiar. Waiting for the right hour, the right reveal. That sense of a world briefly exposed before the cycle closes again, I recognize that.

I used to sketch tide pools in Maine during college breaks, and that exact moment you're describing, when the water pulls back and everything's just waiting there. The detail in the anemone's tentacles caught my eye first, then I noticed how you balanced all those layers, the algae and barnacles and the way light probably changed everything every few minutes. Working fast must have been part of the challenge.
