Sunrise over the Indian Peaks

Got up very early last Sunday morning to capture sunrise over the Indian Peaks range in the north central Colorado Rocky Mountains, a short distance from our campsite. I might have a little more work to do on this one. The full size version is a pan that's roughly 20K pixels wide.

Stunning capture! Although we can't see the sun. I love the misty look, white caps, and blue white just the right amount of green to blend.

Yep - I could have worded that better! The Sun actually rose behind me and to the right. So, I should have written, "... capture sunrise light on the Indian Peaks ..."

Getting up before sunrise from a campsite to chase that light is its own kind of dedication. The Indian Peaks range is one of those places that rewards people who show up early.

Definitely. And the older I get the harder it is to do! 😄

Very nice. 20,000px wide... Is it a stitched series of images or cropped from a Hasselblad or something?

1

Hasselblad? I wish! 🙂 This was shot with a D850 and a 200-500mm telephoto lens at 200mm.

It's a stitched HDR pan, 3 shots per view (+/- 2.0 stops), 7 views. So, 21 exposures total, but cropped down quite a bit.

Well it looks pretty great. I'd love to see a print in person...just to see how a 20,000px image prints! Art Storefronts puts a limit on my maximum pixels and I wonder sometimes how much a quality sacrifice that really is...

Yes, I have had concerns about that size limit. And, I do think it's a good idea to make a proof print prior to offering a photograph for sale. Or, at least a portion of a print. One can take a portion of a print and save that as its own image, then print that full size, for instance as a 4x6" on metal, or whatever.

What a joy to capture such an image! And what technical mastery: panorama and HDR work.

Bravo, the artist!
