I really can't wait to visit there some day. Very cool that you captured that moment! Beautiful!
The combination of so little blocking the view to the east, and elevations above 9,000K, combine for the best warm light nearly anywhere! Beautiful image.
The hoodoos catch that first light differently than anything I've shot in the Blue Ridge. I waited through three separate mornings at Shenandoah trying to get ridgeline light like that, and it never came close to what you've got in one frame here. That's the kind of moment that makes the predawn drive worth it.
I.ve shot the Blue Ridge as well, and I agree the light there is different, I think it's the clear dry air. Mornings like this rarely happen, just keep showing up,
That first light hitting the hoodoos must be unreal. I've only shot wildflowers at sunrise a handful of times, always convinced I'd missed the moment by three minutes, but when the color's actually there it changes everything you thought you knew about red. Canyon geology at dawn is a completely different animal from what I do, but that glow on rock has to be worth the predawn drive every single time.
