The very first one sold was this one, at a local expo (150.00 Euros)

Also, at an exhibition, one of my very first pieces that I personally found to be too "floral," but which, it seems, found its audience. I don't remember the price anymore, probably around €100.00.

The one that really brought me quite a bit of money was this order from an admirer (1000.00 euros):

There you go... It doesn't amount to much, does it? 😄

"Where are they now?" The first two are with private individuals, but I don't know exactly where.

The last one has returned to my workshop, its owner having died last September and leaving it to me.

This one is the latest one to sell, to a private party, from a local market with a wall of my art. It's all original oil, small - like 9"x11". $110.... I assume it's in their home or business. It's the view from a park very near the market, so... Local flavor. "Old Sentries".

Nothing. Grrrr.

Me neither Nancy lol it seems our love and creative outlets are bound to be expressed eloquently for our own personal benefit!!

Such a wrong question! If being able to sell is the marker for our art standard, then the "real" quality resides only in the ability ("whatever it takes!") to sell more and not in the freshness, uniqueness, and honesty of the artwork... (Vincent van Gogh sold only one painting, to his brother, for $109! and didn't stop him for creating amazing art).

Thanks!

You seem to love to critique everything in front of you Adrian, lol.. the vivid memories and celebratory emotions involved in presenting ones work as a rule beyond a hobby resounds with every artist.. the stories and fabric of one's worth starts with a presentation of dreams a world away from where creativity starts!!

Art is like a radio broadcast, it needs a transmitter and a receiver. If any of the two are not properly calibrated there is no coherent broadcasting... As a consumer of art my concern is with the transmitter (thus the critique, trying to identify what could be improved). As an artist, I am concerned with the entire broadcasting, relying on my professional experience to critique my own (and others) body of work in an perpetual attempt to reach, at a minimum, a basic level of harmony needed for an unique art piece to become interesting, attractive, universal... That basic level, for the most part, is achieved between high school and college at which point an artist should not be needing a critique, unless is coming as a necessity and delivered by someone with experience (like a professor or a master artist)... I promise, no more critiques for your posts!

It's funny, not long ago you welcomed a critique...

Appreciate your comment and critique it's taken a long time to find a space where that's possible.. arthelper is growing rapidly and continues to develop artist and their work.)

Do you believe half of what you say? I was interested to see the journey of some of our artists and to see how tractable the art community is at face value against the sums of some of the great artists that a perceived in the multiple millions there's a focal point and presence that conducts itself among the answers and it drives interaction but to be outlined as a wrong question to be critical of my thinking without valiance seems one directional and flawed. While I appreciate your critique of my work the pessimist in me resounds to be institutional in the process. Please do not hesitate to enjoy your time on this platform and don't hold back when it comes to contributing to our creativity positive or negatively..

This painting is a commissioned portrait of a child; the grandfather who owns a cocoa farm paid for it, about 1,200 reais (roughly 200 euros).

But this was the most recent one I sold this year, 2026.

The first one was 47 years ago, a portrait of a model; I don't have the photo.

Guilhem's story about that painting returning after the owner passed is one of those moments that just stops you. And K. Loney, selling a piece that captures the view right near where you're selling it, there's something poetic about that.

Guilhem's story about the painting coming back after its owner passed got me. Every sale is a little piece of someone's life leaving the studio and becoming part of someone else's story. This whole thread is going to be a goldmine.
