Art Residencies

International Residency in France

I spent the month of November, 2024 at an international artists' residency in France. There were about 25 artists present, including about 14 painters, 10 writers and one singer/songwriter. It was a fabulous experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone. It was expensive, but several of us were able to obtain grants to help with the expense (one or two people had grants that fully funded the residency). URL: https://www.chateauorquevaux.com/

I remember you posting about that in Small Wins, Wendell. What a great opportunity for you! Do you have any information on a grant you got or grants the others had? If you did, it would be great if you could post that info in the community I started called "Art Grants & Fellowships".

@Wendell Myers how did you become fully funded? I went to the Chateau in 2018. 11 artists. it was fairly new then and I loved it.!!

I didn't get fully funded. I am sorry if my post was unclear in that regard. I received two grants which funded a significant portion for me. One grant was from the residency itself, the other was from my local arts council. This was a competitive grant which I applied for. The two grants together covered a little less than half of the residency. I believe there were two people there who were fully funded. One was from Pittsburgh, and he received a grant or a combination of grants which paid the entire amount. I do not know what grants he received. The other person who I believe was fully funded did it through a go fund me project.

Sounds perfick. As Pa Larkin would say (Darling Buds of May). This is a random comment for those who are unfamiliar with the program or the book. But it evokes the same feeling of utter delight in a world full of good friends, good food, and painting - Ma Larkin was a painter although in the TV Services (Catherine Zeta-Jones starred as Mariette - the Larkin eldest daughter) we only saw her do that one. Eating happened MUCH more often.
