Art Fairs

🎪 What's your Art Fair horror story others can learn from?

We all love a good fair. Lots of fun, sunshine, music, conversations, and sales ☀️

But we have all been through the thick of it all as well. So, what's your "Art Fair Horror Story" another artist can learn from?

I have no horror story per se, but I've run a booth at a few fairs and respect to people who do them because they are exhausting.

Just in a different way.... I remember well when I was in the north of Germany. Also it was summer it was outside. And at the coast are so much windy. All my tents started to jumping in the air - and I hang on it. During I needed to see how all my art stuff falls and blown the way.
I never thought about what could happen by side to sell it. So luckily there was no big damage. But if? I think we never get there an insurance for this.

Oh no!! I hope you didn't lose anything!

Thank goodness not! Except that you should always be prepared for anything.

Such a great question! Mine was a sudden downpour that soaked half my prints before I could get them covered — learned the hard way to always have heavy-duty plastic sheeting on hand. Would love to hear what others have been through!

I was accepted into one and found out it might be cancelled. There are others. I hope it will go on.

I haven't done that many so far, but the first one I did for the season I went to check my van-that I only use for this-and the battery was dead. It wouldn't charge, but my son in law finally got it to charge, but it wouldn't hold the charge. Then we checked the oil, and there was NO oil in it at all! I scurried to get it to a repair shop-the one that replaced said battery and changed said oil last fall-and they were able to get one oil leak fixed, but couldn't get a second one done, and replaced the battery. I left home several hours later than planned, and had to constantly stop and check my oil on my six hour drive there. Sometimes is very rough parts of towns (Atlanta) in the middle of the night. It was my first "real" art fair, I'd done local craft fairs before then. I just did another one, and have six more planned this season. So far, something pretty big tends to go wrong. This last one was the hotel-a couple next door to me fighting and swearing and knocking each other around, going in and out their door. I was afraid to leave my room. Needless to say, I checked out of that one as soon as the day was over and found somewhere nicer. Lesson learned. Don't scrimp on lodging choices, even if the fair organizer tells you it's safe. 😋
