Expensive cameras missing obvious features is a feature, not a bug

My most used camera body cost more than my entire vintage lamp collection. It still can't do something a 200 euro action cam handles without blinking. That's not a hot take, that's just Tuesday.

I genuinely think manufacturers leave basic functionality out of premium cameras on purpose, and I don't even think it's pure greed. I think they assume "serious" photographers don't want certain features, so they never bother testing whether we actually do. It's a weird kind of elitism baked into product design. The cheaper the camera, the more likely it just lets you do the thing without five menu dives. Meanwhile my professional body acts like zooming during capture or having a simple interval timer would somehow cheapen the experience.

I shoot objects in warm light all day. Half the time I need a function that exists on my phone but not on gear that costs twenty times more. And every time I bring this up, someone tells me I should just "adapt my workflow." No. The workflow shouldn't require a workaround for something a budget camera solved three years ago.

Curious if anyone else has run into this, or if you think the stripped down approach actually serves a purpose. Change my mind.
