*Note: This original painting has sold. Prints are available. "Sea Venture Finds Bermuda" is a painting depicting the real ship with the same name, sent from London to Jamestown in 1609 to restock the first settlers. It is based on the book "Sea Venture-Shipwreck, Survival, and the Salvation of the First English Colony in the New World", by Kieran Doherty. It brings life to one of the most triumphant high sea stories ever told. After 4 weeks at sea, a hurricane devastated the fleet of 9 ships, leaving the Sea Venture shipwrecked on the island of Bermuda. It took the passengers nearly a year and a half to reach their destination. It is one of the most amazing "What ifs" in history. This painting presents the sailing ship navigating turbulent seas under a brooding, cloud-filled sky. The interplay of fading sunlight and dark waves conveys a powerful tension between calm and storm. The ship’s billowing sails and cresting waves reveal the persistent force of nature against human endeavor. This piece would bring a dramatic maritime presence to any room. It is a 16"x20" acrylic on stretched canvas.
