Description
One of the things I enjoy about the Classic Boat Festival at St Katharine Docks is getting close enough to appreciate the individual character of these historic vessels. This is Crest, a vintage motor yacht dating from 1925. Rather than concentrating on the whole boat, I was drawn to the wonderful collection of smaller details — the pale turquoise deck, warm wooden cabin, cream canvas, traditional fittings and even the colourful flowers beneath the canopy. For me, these details are what give classic boats so much personality. Almost a century after Crest was built, there is still something special about seeing a vessel like this being cared for, used and enjoyed rather than simply preserved as a museum piece. What catches your eye first — the turquoise deck, the woodwork or all those little details?
