Description
I created Where Stone Begins to Breathe as an exploration of the quiet life contained within seemingly solid forms. The sweeping arches and layered textures suggest stone shaped by time, pressure, and elemental force. Yet beneath their weight and structure, there is a sense of movement—as though the surface is slowly opening, breathing, and becoming something new. I was drawn to this tension between permanence and transformation: the feeling that even the most enduring materials hold an inner rhythm. The palette of bronze, ochre, amber, cream, and charcoal connects the work to mineral surfaces, weathered earth, and the warmth of light moving across stone. Dark passages create depth and mystery, while the illuminated areas seem to rise from within, offering a sense of quiet awakening. For me, this artwork reflects the moments when change begins almost imperceptibly. It speaks to the possibility that transformation does not always arrive dramatically; sometimes it begins as a subtle shift beneath the surface—a first breath, a glimmer of light, or the awakening of something that has been waiting to emerge.
