Description
Tropical Reckoning
Acrylic on canvas
Tropical Reckoning explores the vibrant tension between growth and fragility within the tropical landscape of Far North Queensland. Layers of colour, texture and gestural mark-making evoke a dense, living environment where native flora and birdlife emerge and dissolve through abstraction. Rather than depicting a specific place, the work captures a feeling—the energy, humidity and unpredictability that define the tropics.
Created through an intuitive process of building, obscuring and revealing, the painting reflects Jeremy McNamara’s fascination with nature’s constant cycle of renewal. Bold colour relationships and expressive surfaces invite viewers to find their own pathways through the work, discovering moments of recognition within the abstraction.
Tropical Reckoning was selected as an Online Finalist in the 2026 Brisbane Rotary Art Show, one of Queensland’s largest and longest-running art prizes supporting both emerging and established Australian artists.
