Description
Painting is a new format for me, but one I have been using to help me process the death of my son at age 18 in 2022. This piece manifested on its own. One particular hard day I sat at my easel, without any intention other than to some how move grief through my body. There are four layers under his face. I kept painting, would be unhappy with whatever was on the canvas, cover it up with black paint and start again. Eventually a face stared to appear. I didn’t even see him in it at first. The music that started playing in the background was Lady A’s Golden. That opened the door for my grief to find the expression it needed and Dawson’s abstract face appeared. It has taken about six months for me to finish it. Golden!
