Description
The Fool of War reimagines Leonardo da Vinci’s celebrated Profile of a Warrior in Helmet, transforming an image of military splendour into an anti-war statement. The elaborate armour, proud profile and extraordinary ornamentation remain almost entirely monochrome. Yet small eruptions of brilliant colour begin to undermine this display of power, above all, the absurd red clown’s nose. The intervention is deliberately simple. By turning the heroic warrior into a fool, the work questions humanity’s persistent glorification of warfare: its uniforms, symbols, ceremonies and cultivated images of strength. Behind the spectacle, war remains destruction, suffering and loss. Part of the Art History Remix series, the work uses humour not to trivialise war, but to challenge its pageantry. The fool gets to tell the warrior the truth.
