Were it not for a trip to Australia, I might never have thought to paint flowers. I like to look at flowers; I enjoy the color and life they bring to a scene; I just never thought to paint them. Then I took a trip to Australia and came across a couple of really enticingly bright flowers soaking up the sun near the Giant’s Chair in a garden overlooking the city of Melbourne. Some bright yellow flowers were hanging out in a patch of planting. I like that this isn’t quite your typical flower pose in that it isn’t a side view where you see the silhouette, and it’s not a top-down view where you see it spread out in all its glory. It’s a mix, and that makes it more interesting. It’s also bright and cheery up against the backdrop of a recess and overhang. It’s like it’s standing guard. A bright and cheerful guard at that.
