Description
This winged lion statue fountain, originally crafted in terracotta over 150 years ago in Quebec, holds a rich history that resonates deeply with me. Once a symbol of Mark the Evangelist, it embodied strength and grace until a tragic incident in 2008 left it shattered by a drunk driver. Yet, its noble spirit continues to inspire through this faithful recreation in a more resilient material.
Set against the lush backdrop of Savannah, Georgia, the lion's fierce expression commands attention, embodying both majesty and resilience. Rendered in watercolor and ink, I aimed to capture intricate details, from the powerful features of the lion to the delicate feathers of its wings. The interplay of light and shadow through the surrounding trees adds a dynamic quality to the piece.
This artwork enriches any space and invites contemplation on the stories of endurance and rebirth that art can embody. It’s a meaningful addition for those who appreciate the intersection of history and artistry.
