"I Knew You" beautifully illustrates a tender moment between Jesus and a child, capturing the profound bond of love and connection we all share with God as His children. The gentle expressions and soft colors evoke a sense of warmth and safety, inviting reflection on the significance of family and faith. Inspired by a real moment first captured on camera between my husband and our firstborn, I used artistic license to transform that memory into an oil painting—changing my husband into Jesus, holding a baby. Accompanied by the powerful verse from Jeremiah 1:5, this piece serves as a reminder of the unique purpose each life holds. It has become a meaningful gift for births, baptisms, and dedications, and has also brought comfort to those grieving a miscarriage or infant loss. After donating the use of this image to organizations, I witnessed firsthand how much impact a simple painting can have—uplifting, encouraging, or comforting others in their journey. As the first of my paintings to receive national attention, "I Knew You" continues to inspire both contemplation and joy, celebrating the moments that shape our faith and our lives. Perhaps the most humbling and unexpected impact of this painting has come through the testimonies of people who say it has even saved lives. Who knew that was even possible? But with God… all things are. The gentle pro-life message carried by this image has been described as a whisper from the Holy Spirit. We have received multiple testimonies from families who were conflicted about a future abortion, sharing that seeing this image changed their minds—one even while on the way to an abortion appointment, after seeing it on a billboard. Pro-life organizations have used "I Knew You" on billboards, murals, bulletin inserts, and more. Never in my imagination did I ever envision one of my paintings would play a part in a set of feet walking this earth, who were so close to never existing outside the womb.
