Description
"Your light still shines" depicts a moment of familial togetherness and tradition. The piece was inspired by a group of beautiful women who lived through the horrors of the holocaust yet were able to pick up the pieces and create beautiful lives for themselves and their family. I had the great privilege of working with these women and they helped me create this composition through their words. In our session together, we identified what was important to them and all across the board it was Shabbat candle lighting. So that's the theme I chose, and then I proceeded to ask them questions of what this composition would look like. After gathering all the information I went and created this piece and then presented it to the group. The piece hangs in a little gathering space in Borough Park, Brooklyn, where these ladies meet a couple times a week for socialization and group exercise. I absolutely fell in love with these women, and I hope that this painting brought them joy. I want this piece to symbolize the beauty of tradition, connection, prayer, and resilience. The vibrant colors and expressive figures convey a sense of joy and spirituality, as the warm glow of candles illuminates the scene. Each family member embodies a unique emotion, enhancing the artwork's narrative of love and connection. This piece invites a sense of warmth and celebration, making it a delightful addition to any space.
