You might like to check out a few comments about photography from 1840s:
Daumier: "“industrial madness ... little more than a servile representation of nature”
Baudelaire: “art’s most mortal enemy” ... "refuge of failed painters"
Ruskin: “lack of visual discrimination...(that threatens) ... the imaginative truth of landscape art.”
Benjamin: “That which withers in the age of mechanical reproduction is the aura of the work of art.”
The portrait artists of the time were none too happy about the advent of the camera. In truth it killed the portrait painter business in Europe. Upshot of that was it ushered in the impressionists movement.
In 1862, there were arguments about providing copyright protection to photography because it was not a fine art, but a mechanical process. Lithography, too faced similar problems when seeking copyright law. What will the scenery look like in 10 years time?
Feels like its gonna be a bumpy ride but its not gonna be boring!
