Building Skill Takes time 1979 to 2024

Image du post 1
I loved the previous growth port, and was inspired to share this too. Since I was a wee lass, I've always been fascinated with faerie rings, a bit of lore passed down by mother grandmother from Scotland. The left is a 1995 redone painting from memory of the one I'd done for a children's book writer in 1979 when I was 19. I'd added the foliage and splatter style a little differently, but the drawing of the fairies were my 1979 version! To the right is my 2024 version, still enamored with faerie rings, but a little more skill and emotion under my belt.

Censored or Uncensored?

I produced 2 versions of The Soul Drinking Succubus; with the pink one primarily as a more social media friendly version. My daughter did not approve; saying that the original (blue one) was far better adding that succubi are bold and confident seductresses, and the pink censored version appears shy and reserved... What are your thoughts? Also...Anyone know of a social media platform where bolder images such as the uncensored version would be welcome / tolerated?

Mystery {soft pastel], 20"w x 15"h

Image du post 1
I don't know about you, but I have very vivid dreams. And they often won't leave me until I paint them. Mystery was one of those times where this scene haunted me for weeks. I struggled to finish it because I knew that as soon as I did, that dream would leave me. And I really didn't want to leave this dream. I don't know what planet I was visiting, but I wasn't on Earth. I only hope I get to experience the rest of the dream so I can visit that island and meet the beings who inhabit it. What about you? Do you have vivid dreams?

Scottish Lore: Mer-Faerie

I love mermaids and faeries. We were doing a "spirit animal" art lesson, and I demonstrated what I would be if I were magical. For the rest of the year, my students were caught drawing little merfaeries and other magical creatures in their free sketch times. It made me smile. You never know what is going to speak to the heart of a child...and the childlike.

Scottish Lore: Faerie Ring

Image du post 1
When I was a wee lass, I found a ring of small white stones in the baby's tears under the fern in my grandmother's yard. She'd immigrated from Scotland to the USA and often had so much lore to pass on to me, to my young and old childlike delight!

This was a commission piece for a salon owner, who had been looking for a while for an artist to execute her vision. I was really excited that she trusted me to create this Harry Potter inspired three panel, large painting. She had many elements that she wanted included, which I was able to do plus a few extras as surprises. It is in her massage room where she works.

My most recent HP inspired critter

I have a collector who has commissioned Harry Potter inspired critters. She is my business neighbor and has a coffee shop and is hanging them up in her shop. This is my latest piece inspired by Hermione. I’ve also done a Harry Potter hamster, a Dumbledore owl and a Hagrid hamster. This all started when one of my students that I give private lessons to wanted to paint a hammy Potter because she’s obsessed with hamsters.

I have two more pieces planned. Who do you think they’re inspired by and what critter will they be?

Ps. And it glows in the dark!
