Description
He was tiny, frightened, and completely dependent on someone to help him. After being rescued, he settled into my hand, warm and content, as if he somehow knew he was safe.
As I painted him, I kept noticing what looked like a little smile on his face. Maybe it was simply the way his tiny features fell, but I chose to believe he was feeling what I hoped he felt in that moment: I’m safe. Someone found me. Someone cares.
And then I thought about how much like us he is.
Sometimes we are frightened, vulnerable, and unsure of what comes next. We may not understand where we are being taken or why we had to be rescued from where we were. But we can rest knowing that we are held securely in God’s hands.
Just as this little squirrel could relax in the hand that rescued him, we can relax in the hands of the One who rescued us—trusting that we are seen, loved, and safely held.
