Descrição
This old juniper was found in an area that receives heavy tourist traffic in Canyonlands National Park, Utah. The twisting trunk and branches resemble a dancer enjoying life in spite of the constant movement and chaos from thousands of visitors who crowd it in order to see the views behind it.
Junipers are fascinating and amazing; while slow-growing, they're hardy and can withstand severe trauma that would destroy trees and shrubs with less toughness. This one is most likely a Utah juniper (Juniperus osteosperma), native to much of the western US. Junipers have many edible and medicinal uses, from the cones, leaves and berries, and oils produced by some species.
