Kalter Wachs und Öl auf 30 x 30 Zoll großem Paneel. Vor einigen Jahren verbrachte ich viel Zeit im Taos Pueblo in New Mexico, und dieses Werk entstand während des Malens. Es ist meine Impression und meine gelebte Erfahrung eines Ortes, nicht eine on-site Darstellung. Es ist wichtig, indigene Kunst nicht zu kopieren oder zu approprieren, daher hoffe ich, dass ich das nicht getan habe. Das war nicht meine Absicht.

Nach den Geschichten, die ich gehört habe, ist die Kiva-Leiter wie eine Treppe zum Himmel, sehr ähnlich wie Jakobsleiter. Jedenfalls möchte ich mehr Leitern in meinen Arbeiten haben.

I discover this is a ladder which allows to go down into a kivas where rituals were practiced.

They begin the ritual in the kiva then ascend the ladder. It is a reenactment of their emergence into this life, like a birth, from the dark into the light.
