The tomatoes are perfect. I have a coffee mug from three mornings ago balanced on my tripod case right now. That's the space where things actually happen, where you're deep enough in the work that what's behind the canvas stops mattering. My studio desk has lens caps, BBQ rub containers, probably a sandwich I forgot about. The piece itself looks like you're building something with real depth, especially that back layer you're about to finish.
@Malcolm Turcotte Yes, in fact it's funny. Because it's totally free, with no intention of following any particular style or anything else. Only a labor of love. We are a jazz saxophone quartet formed recently. And none of us are in our twenties anymore. Where we live — everything is a bit different and you need a good sense of humor. It's like Hobbits, if you understand.
Four weeks ago we managed to have a world-renowned jazz musician perform as our teacher. And yes... he is very strict.
Thus a pinch of humor emerged in our search for the quartet's name: Critters or Palminions (La Palma + Minions) 😂😂😂😂 — in the end they were called PalMinions — very fitting as inhabitants of La Palma. I can already picture them in Belgium, stepping off the bus before the concert.

The tomatoes are perfect. They're a reminder that the work happens in a real place, not some sterile white cube. I shoot in fields at 2 a.m. with dew condensing on my tripod legs and rocks digging into my knees. The setup is always messier than the frame, and that's fine. Your piece has good form coming through already, even unfinished.
