With my watery paint and botanicals impressing into it, the only try planning where I will pit the botanicals, but it’s a crapshoot each time!

I plan my paintings from a photograph and I paint images a petal, a feather, a leaf one at a time by wet into wet technique, but watercolor can always surprise the artist with the wonderful qualities of watercolors. I love watercolors because of the surprises no matter the planning. Lyndaravenbrakewatercolors.net

Since I am a watercolor painter, it is important for me to plan my paintings. I plan my painting to 85-90 %. You can correct mistakes to a large degree, but some mistakes can mess up a painting. Contrast and focal points are also important in any visual art so I do a thumbnail value sketch before painting. Very helpful.

Both. sometimes I dream about them first, sometimes I simply start with splashing color on a wet sheet of paper and go from there.
