I'm looking for a new and better name for this image. I originally called it "Island Peaks" because that's the name of the overlook here. I didn't like any of Arty's suggestions, but one made me wonder about "Black Cathedral." The photo is of the giant fins at Island Peaks in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in Colorado.

Black Cathedral puts the space first, not the map grid. Island Peaks tells me where you stood. Cathedral tells me what the stone became when the light hit it and you were small enough to notice.

I keep coming back to "Black Cathedral" because it gives you the scale and the quiet weight of those fins without boxing you into the overlook's name. Island Peaks feels like map info, something you'd read on a trailhead sign. Cathedral hands you the feeling before the fact, and that matters when the light and the stone are doing all the work. What pulled you toward cathedral as a word for this place?

@Regan Almonte Honestly, I'd used ArtHelper to try to find a different name (most of which I disliked). One of the suggestions was Canyon Cathedral, which was sort of okay, but still not right for the color and ruggedness of the stone. Thanks for your thoughts!

Canyon Cathedral probably felt like it was working too hard. Black Cathedral lets the stone speak for itself, which sounds like what you needed, the ruggedness does the naming, not a borrowed word trying to catch up.
