Finally got around to processing my images taken at the Caroni Bird Sanctuary in Caroni Swamp, Trinidad where I took a boat ride to see the Scarlet Ibis coming in to roost in the late evening. The big challenge was the birds keep away from the mass of boats and tourist and being close to the equator the light fading very quickly. So in addition to high shutter speeds I also needed high ISOs
High ISO plus fading equatorial light is the constraint that forces the shot. The distance problem with the ibis becomes the framing problem, and you're solving for both at once while the window closes.
That moment when the light drops and you're racing against it, I know that feeling. I've had sketching trips where I had maybe ten minutes to catch the glow on a doorway before it was gone. You can feel the urgency in these shots, the high ISO choice makes sense when you're working that fast and the birds won't wait. The color on those ibis must have been wild in that fading equatorial light.
@Sadie Webb, Here's a good example of a copyright statement on the front of the image. His color choice doesn't conflict with the rest of the print/image, but it's bold enough to be read easily. It's in the lower left corner in this case - left-right doesn't matter except where it affects the image. Well done, @Malzarphotos!
