The NEW #SmallWins by Art Storefronts!

Boosting a single post monthly, has anyone here tried it?

A photographer I know spends a small budget boosting one reel per month and apparently pulled 180,000 views and 300 new followers off a single one. That's a wild number for someone who isn't exactly a celebrity.

I'm trying to figure out if that kind of approach translates to sculpture at all. My stuff is small figurative work, clay torsos and hands, and I'm not sure a 15 second clip of a hand form sitting on a turntable has the same scroll stopping power as a dramatic photo edit. I barely have time to post consistently between the studio and coaching my kid's soccer team, so the idea of putting effort into one post and paying to push it is honestly appealing.

Anyone here boosted posts for sculptural or fine art work? Did it actually bring in people who cared, or just vanity numbers?

This is something I've thought about a bit, even as a watercolorist. In my experience, boosting a post really only buys one thing: eyeballs. And eyeballs are not the same as collectors or people who genuinely connect with your work. I've noticed that when I've paid to push something, the people who showed up weren't necessarily folks who'd ever buy a painting. They were just passing through. The other thing that gave me pause is that I've heard the algorithm can learn you're willing to pay, and then your organic reach quietly shrinks when you stop. So you end up on a treadmill. For something specific, like promoting an open studio or a show, a small boost might make sense. But as a regular habit it seems like spending money to collect vanity numbers. Putting that energy into consistent, genuine posts that attract the right people has felt more worthwhile to me, even if the numbers stay modest.

I have to agree totally with @iris-calloway7657 and her comment and about boosting a post really only buys one thing: eyeballs. And eyeballs are not the same as collectors or people who genuinely connect with your work.

I recently boosted a post on Instagram promoting a collection of 10 geometric art and canvas prints, called The Manovaha Nadis - The "Ten Gates" - These are the ten main energy channels in Tantra Yoga. I reimagined them as simple colourful individual geometric shapes. I thought as a test I would chance £35 ($46) over 7 days thinking it would reach the right market for anyone interested in Tantra Yoga or Art either as colourful prints for their home or perhaps for yoga studios looking for geometric wall art.

I ended up with:

232,718 Reach

2,423 Link Clicks

Anyway, even though the amount of Views blew my socks off. I only ended up with 223 new followers, unfortunately virtually all of them I would say are a complete waste of time, have no interest in the art and I'm not really sure why they even bothered following me. Perhaps my overall marketing target was not on point or maybe the prints just didn't sell themselves, I don't know. What I do know is that I didn't get 1 sale which was somewhat disappointing and worse still, I've now inherited 223 irrelevant IG followers. Oh well, that's life. I will probably give it another try but will choose a different and more specific target market next time.

I don't know about a once per month thing, but I did boost a few images (one at a time) just to see what happens. Personally I gained about 400 followers in a week. Now, they may not be buying followers I have no way of knowing that yet, but it definitely increased my followers (who seem to be staying so far) and increased the number of likes I get in general.

Now I did read somewhere about the algorithm picking up on this and then expecting you to pay to get the exposure since it realizes you will. That may be true, and it sounds about right to me. As a result I haven't boosted anything in 2-3 weeks. That doesn't mean I never will.

My intention is to boost something I'm actually wanting to advertise. A sale, limited edition, holiday offering. Something other than just a typical post. We will see how that works.
