Well Amy, appreciation noted.. but honestly I am not sure where this "muse" for the poetry and art actually comes from sometimes? For me, I tend to write just from life experiences and on an emotional and symbolic level..again, not sure how I get there all the time but I don't think that is that important, as long as you put a little piece of yourself into the poem..but I have been writing poetry for years.. some good and some pretty bad.. and I don't necessarily like the term but if something "resonates" with your soul and being as you write anything I would say you are on the right track..now for example when writing "Trees in the Rain". I just kind of scribbled down the poem, but then had to go back for rewrites and edits.. it's just the nature of the beast, so to speak.. and don't expect perfection.. "perfection is the enemy of success" as my people like to say..lol..so also I used to journal quite a bit to get my thoughts out onto paper. I found that process really helps when trying to express oneself..so I would say worry less about the results and just go with the flow for awhile..can't necessarily hurt.. and honestly sometimes it feels quite better inside when you can release something in the process.. just food for thought...#poetryandart#artpoetry#artandpoetry#poetryart

PS Take a look at Prophetic Art and Spiritual Creativity if you're already on it.. @Anne Reid Artist @Len Cicio @Steven Maranto we are chatting a bit about the creative process.. enjoy..

Steven, I really like how your title "A Raindrop Falls.." sets a contemplative tone that pairs well with your uncertainty about whether the piece is finished — it's like the artwork itself is still evolving, just like your poem will be. Looking forward to seeing how the poem might deepen the imagery!

Thank you for sharing this and for creating this group. Connecting poetry with visual image is something I've just started working on (got the poems, working on the imagery) - an additional branch to my Chromatic Compositions with a slightly different focus. I am not finding it easy. Did you create your artwork first, or the poem first? I love the symbolism in your work and poetry.

Hi Amy, and thanks for accepting the invite. and appreciate the question and the kind words.. Honestly, this format is kind of new for me as well.. the paintings you see were created without the poems in mind generally. with solemn father the poem was written after the work and I just decided that they seemed to work well together..with a raindrop falls, i just looked at the piece and write the poem.. but yes, sometimes these things come without filters and in a moment of inspiration.. others it takes a little more work and mindfulness about what you are trying to express.. at least this has been my experience so far.. I would say just look at your painting and try to tap into the emotion it evokes for you . the words will come.. but maybe they will take a few edits.. no shame in that..have a good rest of your day..

Hi Steven, Interestingly, I tend to work the other way. I can write the poems, and I want to create a visual to go with them, but somehow that seems like too much of an emotional leap for me, and I just can't seem to make myself go there, even if I have a good idea of what to draw or paint. My music paintings are pretty much like painting data, turning the music into a literal visual chromatic representation. I love figuring it out and the mystery that each piece provides, but to me, that is different from committing to drawing a picture that represents my poems. It's funny, the kids I teach online seem to have no problem with this - it is just something in me that right now, anyway, is balking at the process. I appreciate your work and this group you created. I am curious to learn if anyone else has this type of challenge, or if it is just a "me" thing :).
