Halloween gives you permission to lean into the part of surrealist work that doesn't have to explain itself. I love that you made something for it, that you let the occasion be enough reason to follow wherever the intuition went that day.

I keep a folder of figure studies I've done around holidays because the energy is so different from regular drawing days. There's a wildness to Halloween work that lets you push gesture past what the body would actually do, and that's where surrealist figurative work lives anyway. The combination you're describing in your statement, that intuition plus meticulous work, that's the tension that makes something feel both grounded and impossible at the same time. I'm still learning how to hold both of those at once without one crushing the other.
