Richard Avedon: Immortal. Portraits of Aging, 1951–2004 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. This exhibition presents some 100 portraits that dramatize the universal experience of aging, photographed by one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century. On view until August 9, 2026. Photographers, this one is a masterclass in portraiture. Go study those compositions.
Keerat Kaur: Sweet Speech at the MMFA. On view until September 20, 2026. A beautiful reason to visit the museum more than once this summer.
Rising Suns: Art from the Confederacies of the Great Lakes and Rivers at the MMFA. On view until October 11, 2026.
The Mountain at the Heart of Montreal, an outdoor exhibition by the McCord Stewart Museum. Starting June 1, 2026, this outdoor exhibition traces 150 years of Mount Royal Park's history through some fifty archival images drawn from the Museum's Photography collection. Free to visit year-round, the exhibition unfolds near the George-Étienne Cartier Monument and Beaver Lake, by way of Smith House and the Kondiaronk Lookout chalet. Perfect for a plein air sketch day on the mountain.
Le cucitrici, Voices of Montréal's Italian Seamstresses at the MEM (Musée des mémoires). This exhibition highlights the vital role played by Italian women in Montréal's clothing industry following the Second World War. Runs June 9, 2026 to June 6, 2027. A quietly powerful show about craft, labour, and belonging.

Galerie LeRoyer: GLR 41 in Old Montreal. This group show runs June 16 to July 7, 2026, and it just opened its doors. If you love contemporary painting and want to see what galleries are hanging right now, swing by.
Un/Situ, Concordia MFA Thesis Show at the MFA Gallery Slip Space (VA Building, 1395 Boul. René-Lévesque O). This Master's thesis show opened June 17 with a midissage on June 20. Support emerging artists and see what the next wave looks like.
Secular at Temple Projects. Vernissage on June 22. A new group show in one of Montreal's most interesting artist-run spaces (a former chapel, no less).
🙋 Get in on it (don't just look, participate)
Festival International de Jazz de Montréal kicks off June 25. The festival features nearly 1,000 concerts this year (its 46th edition!) by musicians from around the world, on outdoor and indoor stages, with dozens of free events from June 25 and into July. Visual artists: the energy in the Quartier des Spectacles is incredible for sketching, photographing, or just soaking up creative fuel.
MUTEK Montréal, 27th Edition, August 25 to 30, 2026. The lineup features 120+ artists and 18 programs. Digital artists and AV creators, mark your calendars. The 12th edition of MUTEK Forum also returns from August 26 to 28, bringing together artists, institutions, and researchers.
Pointe-à-Callière: Alley-oop, An Interactive Adventure. This all-ages experience at the Pointe-à-Callière complex combines games with exploration through Montréal's back alleys, brought to life with visual projections and motion detection. Runs to January 10, 2027. Great inspiration if you work with interactive or projection art.
💛 Feel-good corner
Montreal's Street Art Renaissance: This year, the city is going big on murals. Montreal is entering a new chapter for public art in 2026, branded by a city-backed mural program. The year will bring expanded funding, clearer timelines for mural projects, and new public-art initiatives designed to boost accessibility, inclusivity, and local engagement. By balancing high-visibility murals with neighborhood murals, the city aims to broaden public access to public art. The program emphasizes that murals should be a shared cultural resource and a catalyst for neighborhood pride and inclusion. If you're a muralist or public-art maker, this is your moment.
Fonderie Darling x Dans la rue Youth Art Project: An exhibition depicting the reality of Dans la rue youth, inspired by the board game Monopoly, will be presented at the Darling Foundry in 2026. This collaboration with Fonderie Darling will pave the way for new forms of expression and enable youth to build connections with the artistic community. Art changing lives, right here in Old Montreal.
