Has anyone here actually placed work in an LA gallery without it being pay-to-show?
Genuine question for the LA folks. I shoot night landscapes, mostly prints, and every time I look into local representation it splits into two piles. Real galleries that never answer, and "galleries" that answer within the hour because the model is you paying for the wall.
I had one studio visit in Culver City go well, lots of nodding, and then nothing for six weeks. No reply to the follow up either.
So before I burn another month: which LA galleries actually take unsolicited work from a working photographer, pay on a normal schedule, and don't ask for money up front. And how did you land the first yes.

I have yet to see a gallery or art show or platform that did not charge something up front. In most cases they provide very little for what they charge as well. I am constantly weighing the cost against the potential exposure.
