The Atlantic’s Veil of Sea Mist Ericeira, October 27, 2026.

Translated from Português
Post image 1

Under a clear, brilliant blue sky, the Atlantic reveals its full power. Waves roll in one after another, spreading white foam along the shore, while a delicate veil of sea mist follows the contours of the cliffs, gradually fading into the horizon.

A fascinating contrast between the ocean’s raw energy and the softness of a white veil that seems to rest gently upon the coastline.

One of those moments when nature simply invites us to stop, observe, and appreciate its beauty.

Original photograph, no filters or AI. Only a slight adjustment to the framing.

October 27th. You dated it. That's the kind of detail someone puts in when the day itself mattered, when you knew you were watching something worth marking down. I do that too when a morning gives me something I didn't expect and I want to remember I was there for it.

The fact that you're shooting this straight, no filters, just framing, that says a lot about trusting what was already in front of you. The restraint to let the moment be what it was instead of pushing it somewhere else.

Thank you so much, Hollis, for such a thoughtful reflection. Living by the Atlantic has taught me to appreciate those unexpected moments that nature offers us. I like to preserve them as I see them, without filters or artificial changes. Sometimes, simply being there and paying attention is enough to capture something special.

that's exactly it. Living with something day after day sharpens what you actually see versus what you think you're supposed to see. The Atlantic probably teaches that faster than anything.

Exactly, Hollis. The Atlantic has been part of my life since childhood, and I still discover something new every day. The more you observe nature, the more you realise how much there is left to learn. Perhaps that’s what makes it so fascinating.

That line about the mist following the contours of the cliffs, I can picture exactly the kind of moment you're describing, where the soft and the violent sit right next to each other and you just have to watch it happen. The Ericeira coastline must give you that over and over.

Thank you, Owen! You’re absolutely right. Living in Ericeira, I have the privilege of witnessing the Atlantic in many different moods. What caught my attention today was precisely that delicate veil of mist stretching along the cliffs, contrasting with the powerful waves. Even after all these years, the ocean still manages to surprise me.

That privilege of living in it rather than passing through, that changes what you see. The ocean doesn't surprise visitors the way it surprises someone who's actually there to watch it shift.

That’s beautifully expressed, Owen. There’s a special connection that comes from growing up beside the ocean. You learn to recognise its moods, respect its strength, and appreciate even its smallest changes. And yet, after a lifetime of watching it, there’s always something new to discover.
