Before the Mist

The morning clouds gave way to sunlight, turning the Atlantic into silver.
Far on the horizon, the mist is already beginning to gather — another change quietly on its way.

That Atlantic light when the mist is pulling in, you caught the moment just before the geometry changes. Ericeira has that quality where the horizon keeps shifting on you.
Thank you, Shannon. I love that you have an old postcard of Ericeira found in Lyon — what an unexpected journey for a little piece of my hometown! The light and mist here can change within minutes, and that is one of the things I most enjoy trying to capture. Now you’ve made me very curious about that postcard.
Silver water under changing light is everything I chase in stills. The mist gathering at the edge makes the whole frame feel like it's breathing, you caught the Atlantic mid-thought. I keep a postcard from Ericeira on my desk, bought at a flea market in Lyon years ago, and this has that same quality of waiting for weather to decide what happens next.
Thank you, Daren. That constant change is one of the things I love most about photographing the Atlantic here. Sometimes the light, the horizon and the atmosphere can change completely in just a few minutes. I was lucky to catch that brief moment before the mist took over.
