A Window to the Atlantic — Ericeira, Portugal

Translated from Português
Post image 1

Sometimes, the most beautiful views are found in the simplest places.

A stone bench, a traditional blue-and-white wall, and the endless Atlantic stretching towards the horizon.

Beyond the wall, a delicate veil of sea mist follows the coastline, while the waves continue their restless journey.

A peaceful place to sit, observe, and appreciate the ever-changing beauty of the ocean.

The mist following the coastline is the part that got me. I've sat through plenty of mornings where the ocean looks like it's repeating itself, and then something like that shows up and the whole thing shifts. A bench like that is the kind of spot where you'd end up staying longer than you planned.

Thank you so much, Eamon. That coastal sea mist was exactly what caught my attention. I had been watching it from Santo Isidoro, and it remained visible throughout the day. Although the waves were impressive, I wanted the mist to be the true protagonist of my photograph. Sometimes, the most fascinating details are the ones we discover when we take the time to observe.

That patience to let one thing dominate instead of chasing every detail, that's the hardest part to learn.

I've learned more about light sitting still in one spot than I ever did chasing ten locations in a morning. That bench looks like the kind of place where you'd notice things you'd miss anywhere else.

Thank you, Malcolm. I couldn’t agree more. Sometimes, staying in one place allows us to notice details we might otherwise miss. That simple stone bench, overlooking the Atlantic, invites us to slow down and appreciate the changing light, the movement of the sea, and the mist along the distant coastline. It’s one of those places where I could happily spend hours just observing.

Hours just watching one place shift and change, that's where the real work happens. I've noticed the same thing shooting the ridge at different times of year, and it's never the same twice even though nothing moved.
