Isn't it filled with a nearly mystical, divine presence? To have the chance to observe them up close, to see their colorful plumage unfold. These birds fascinate me.

#Tired

Tired Soul of Ukraine is an expressive watercolor portrait by Ukrainian-Canadian artist Oleksandra Guyowa, painted on Fabriano watercolor paper (24 x 18 inches). The work captures a moment of quiet introspection: a young woman crowned with a vibrant wreath of spring flowers gently touches her forehead, as if listening to her inner thoughts.

The composition portrays a young woman crowned with a vibrant wreath of blossoms, gently touching her forehead in a quiet moment of reflection.

The floral crown recalls the traditional Ukrainian vinok, a symbol of youth, beauty, and connection to nature. Through luminous washes of color and expressive brushwork, the artist allows the flowers and figure to merge into a flowing harmony of purples, warm corals, and fresh greens. The watercolor medium enhances a sense of softness and emotional The composition captures a young woman in a moment of quiet fatigue, her hand resting against her forehead, crowned with a traditional Ukrainian vinok - a wreath symbolizing youth, femininity, and a deep connection to nature.

Guyowa’s fluid watercolor technique allows color and emotion to dissolve into one another, as vibrant blossoms merge with the figure’s form. The palette - rich violets, warm corals, and soft greens—creates a delicate tension between vitality and exhaustion, beauty and introspection.

The floral crown evokes the traditional Ukrainian vinok, a symbol of youth, beauty, and connection to nature. Through luminous washes of color and fluid brushwork, the artist creates an atmosphere where the figure appears almost to dissolve into blossoms and light. The palette - rich purples, warm corals, fresh greens, and golden highlights- suggests renewal, femininity, and the emotional awakening associated with spring.

Rooted in Ukrainian cultural symbolism yet universal in emotional resonance, the work reflects on the inner life of modern femininity—where strength and vulnerability coexist. The vinok becomes both adornment and weight, a poetic emblem of identity, memory, and

quiet endurance.

I painted this a few weekends ago. There was a car show and right out front of my studio was a hippie van in an old school bus. They inspired this piece. Inside the van was a Granny Square Afghan and rainbow Pom Pom trim which inspired some of the elements in the painting. And one of the best songs ever, purple rain, came on while it was painting so you can guess what area that is.

This is completely different from my normal style of painting, but I really enjoyed it and I’m just putting it out there to see what happens.

This is the cover of a children’s book that I recently authored and illustrated. It may be used to open a conversation about how the little in your life is feeling about something changing in their world. This could be a new pet, sibling, or other family member. Or the change could be environmental. How could you apply this in your everyday life?
