Rust is the record of endurance.
Radiance is the grace that finds it anyway.

Rust and Radiance treats the bridge as the anchor of a fading memory. Its form remains articulated and weighty, but the foliage, water and sky are allowed to blur into atmosphere. Rather than chasing photographic detail, the work honors what the eye—and the heart—actually hold onto after time has passed.

"Beach Skies Blue" reveals the ever-shifting dance between sky and sea at sunset, where deep blues yield to warm pinks and purples across the open horizon. This is Herring Cove Beach at the tip of Cape Cod.

Painting, "American Buffalo" from Ancestor series

Painting, "American Buffalo" from Ancestor series by Robert Althouse

Three bison emerge from and dissolve back into each other in a layered, mosaic-like composition. Bold black contour lines divide the canvas into interlocking zones of dusty mauve, warm tan, slate blue, and muted green, against a cool mint background. The overlapping forms create an almost geological quality, as if the animals are embedded in stone or landscape rather than simply depicted on it.

The buffalo has been a symbol of American abundance, and American loss. Once there were tens of millions of them on this continent, and their destruction was inseparable from the genocide that American colonizers committed against the indigenous peoples they encountered in the Americas.

The layered structure of this painting is intentional: these animals are not three separate bison, but one presence refracted through time. Past, present, and future, pressing against each other.

This flag was always flying near my house. It always brought to mind the struggles our troops face and the strength and resilience we have as a nation. Storm through storm it was always there.

"The Yellow Pot - Chefchaouen, Morocco"

Captured in the incredible "blue pearl" of Morocco, a place that was incredibly inspiring to me. I often print this on canvas, and people inevitably think it's a painting -- no paint at all!
