Don't be boring.
Nobody ever thinks they're boring, but a lot of people are. They have little or no energy, are unable to engage in interesting conversations on a variety of subjects, and are often so introverted that they disappear into the woodwork. Many of the most boring people I've met in a very long art career are, sad to say, artists, which makes sense because, in many cases, artists are solitary, introspective people who only come alive when they are creating. This is really important because boring people find it almost impossible to make sales.
How do you know, or rather come to the realization, that you are boring? The simplest answer to that question is noticing how many people avoid your company or drift away while you are talking.
And now comes the $64,000 question: how do you not be seen as boring? It's incredibly easy. Just be interested in the other person. Ask them questions about their life and their interests. Listen intently and keep delving deeper. Keep asking questions. They will think you are one of the most interesting people they've ever met. Incidentally, these are the same skills that are essential to making sales.
