Yayoi Kusama’s first permanent UK public artwork transforms her famous polka dots into monumental mirrored forms at Liverpool Street.

It’s the reflections in these enormous polished spheres that I find particularly interesting. Each one picks up a different fragment of the surrounding City architecture, while the curved connecting forms seem to weave their way across the buildings behind.

This is Infinite Accumulation by Yayoi Kusama, outside the Elizabeth line entrance at Liverpool Street station.

Unveiled in 2024, it is Kusama’s first permanent public artwork in the UK and her largest permanent public sculpture. The familiar polka dots from her work have effectively become three-dimensional here, forming a series of highly polished spheres connected by flowing lines. Transport for London

I like the contrast between the futuristic reflective surfaces and the ornate stone architecture of Broad Street behind them.

Which catches your eye first — the sculpture itself or all those tiny reflections of London within it?
