These are part of a new series of minimalist angels I’ve been working on.
I’ve been obsessed with the idea of angels for years. It began after hearing a podcast about how differently other creatures perceive the world. It made me think about how much exists beyond the limits of our five senses: Radio waves. Microwaves. Infrared light. Frequencies we cannot hear. Forces moving through and around us that are completely invisible—and yet, we know they are there. So I began wondering: What else are we unable to perceive?
Why not messengers? Protectors? Some presence moving alongside us that we simply don’t have the tools to sense—yet?
These paintings are my attempt to give form to something that has no form—to paint the possibility of presence.
A gesture. A wing. A shadow. A suggestion.
The paintings explore an ancient, esoteric idea—that perhaps the visible world is only part of what surrounds us. At the heart of every luminous, ethereal painting is one certainty:
We are never alone.

I lost a painting once because I kept chasing something I couldn't name. Scraped it down three times trying to pin down a quality that wasn't in the paint at all, it was in the gap between what I saw and what I wanted someone else to feel. You're working in that gap on purpose. That's where the hardest paintings live.
