I've done mango leaves before and they're deceptively hard to get right. The way you handled the translucency here, especially where the light comes through the edges, that's the tricky part. Arches holds up well for this kind of layering.

Yes, I prefer Arches for most of my paintings. nowadays I use 300 lb paper weigt. It can take a lot of water and layering. I use a lot of layering.

The way those leaves catch light at different weights, some translucent, some holding more pigment, that's what keeps it alive. Arches holds water in a particular way, and you worked with that instead of against it.
Thank you Arlene. I mostly use Arches watercolor paper. To me, it is a reliable paper that I know well. Watercolor painting is magical but it is also a challenge. So many factors to take into consideration. Sometimes I am ready to give up but then........watercolors are my love.
