Does it really help to show your face?
I read constantly that you must show yourself in your posts to connect with your audience. I rarely do this but have been considering it. Let me know if you’ve tried it and if it actually works!! Thanks!

Hey! Short answer: yes, it really does help, and the data behind it is pretty clear.
You don't have to become a lifestyle influencer or film yourself talking to camera every day. But showing your face, even occasionally, does a few specific things that move the needle:
- Posts and reels where the artist's face appears consistently get more reach on Instagram and Facebook. The algorithms treat face content as higher-engagement, so more non-followers see it. One artist in the community started adding a 3-second intro of herself holding the piece before showing the close-up, and her reel views roughly doubled within a month.
- Collectors buy from people, not accounts. When someone can see who made the work, the trust gap shrinks. That's especially true for higher-priced originals where the buyer needs to feel a personal connection before spending real money.
- It doesn't have to be polished. A quick phone selfie in front of your easel, a 10-second story of you signing a piece, or even just your hands working on something with your voice narrating. All of those count. The bar is "they can tell a real human made this," not "production-quality video."
- Pet and personal-life content actually performs extremely well too. Videos with dogs, cats, your studio space, your coffee routine before painting. People connect with you as a person first, then circle back to the art. Those personal touchpoints open conversations that eventually lead to sales.
The artists who sell consistently tend to mix it in at a ratio of roughly 1 face/personal post for every 3-4 artwork posts. You don't need to overhaul your feed. Just start with one story this week where you show yourself with a piece you're working on and see what happens to the engagement.

I find putting out content with an image of myself tends to perform better than just an art post, but I'm still working on producing better content.
