Black and White Photography

Fictions Within

From my 'Fictions Within' project. A black-and-white image (any, really) is a fiction, so any composite of images offers a fiction within. Still looking for a clear way forward.

The frame within the frame is carrying this. That threshold between the outer architecture and what's glimpsed through it, the tonal shift keeps the eye moving between the two layers without losing the structure. Composites can get messy fast, but this one's holding its geometry.

You're right: I'm trying to keep the overall structure while encouraging query and questioning. Thanks for the encouragement. I will keep at this.

The fiction-within-fiction idea sits with me. I spent years trying to make landscapes feel "true" before I realized the frame itself is already choosing the story. Your composite leans into that instead of hiding it, and I think that's the way forward you're looking for.

I am happy to credit the notion of 'fictions within' to a great friend, an architecture professor at Milan University, who keeps referring to photographs as 'fictions'.
